We are a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, overseen by a Board of (Volunteer) Directors and operated by nearly 200 volunteers. Additional community members generously donate their professional services to supply accounting, legal, and marketing related activities. Because we operate primarily through volunteers, ninety cents of every donated dollar can be spent to assist the over 720 men, women and children we service each month.*
Our community's sharing of their time, energy and finances allows us to provide a broad range of services to financially distressed families. There isn't a month that goes by that someone in the Highland or Milford area doesn't offer some form of charitable endeavor... a coat & boot drive, pajamas for kids, a canned food drive and more.
Community Sharing is surrounded and held by a loving community.

WHAT OUR NON-PROFIT DOES
We are primarily a food pantry, located in Highland Twp., MI, providing assistance for our neighbors who reside in Milford, Highland the Stratford Villa and Commerce Meadows mobile home parks located in Wixom, MI with some assistance offered to Cedarbrook Estates located in White Lake.
We help the recently unemployed, the working poor, families in poverty, low income seniors, people with disabilities and others who qualify. We have many special program that specifically assist the children of Community Sharing's clients with over 300 children receiving benefits that will improve their health, welfare and, we hope, happiness. With a focus on the next generation we offer tutoring in the fight against intergenerational poverty, knowing that education is the road to self-sufficiency.
Something special we do... in the month of a client's child's birthday, an age appropriate gift bag is provided through non-monetary donations. It is filled with a cake mix, frosting, paper plates, candles, decorations and a special gift. Everyone's birthday needs to be celebrated with family and friends!
WHAT WE OFFER TO THOSE IN NEED
Available once a month and in emergencies, a broad selection of healthy foods is provided, including fresh produce, meats, canned vegetables and fruits along with cooking and baking ingredients.
Emergency Financial Assistance
We can support various types of hardships, such as, evictions or utility shut-off if a casework assessment indicates a need.
Donated clean clothing is available to clients and rotated based on the season. Winter coats, boots, hats and gloves are often provided through volunteer run coat drives.
Our Caseworkers complete assessments, provide advocacy, and they network with other agencies to maximize needed assistance for clients.
Tutoring by volunteers, in core subjects (K thru 12), is available for all Huron Valley Schools students who participate in the Federal Lunch Program. It is not necessary to be a client family to take advantage of this service. Assistance is also provided to adults preparing for their GED. Ind addition, a team of volunteer tutors provide homework assistance to children, after school, each week.
Community Sharing works with Huron Valley School District, through their Resource Night, to assist families with questions regarding assistance. We also work with school district social workers to assist children and their families. In the absence of subsidized lunches, provided by the school district during the school year, Community Sharing has recently partnered with Meals-On-Wheels to provide summer lunches, serving over 200 children.
